đź“ťForeword & mission
Startups are hard, and our founders deserve better.
We founded Windy Ventures with a shared vision: to unite the most talented builders, creatives, investors, and dreamers at UChicago and provide them with world-class resources.
We believe that there is incredible latent talent at our school, and we just need the right ecosystem to unlock their full potential.
This year promises to be Windy Ventures' most significant yet - we want to 10x the quality of our events and resources by the end of the year. This includes
- Learning: top-notch workshops for aspiring VCs and builders, industry-leading guest speakers, stories & lessons from the best student founders.
- Community: fun & productive brunches and dinners, collaboration with other schools, flagship hackathon in the Midwest.
- Network: establish deal flow and tight relationships with tier 1 VCs in Chicago & beyond. Current investors in our network include Soma Capital, Bessemer Venture Partner, 500 Global, Sequoia China, Hyde Park Venture Partners, Alumni Ventures, gener8tor, Techstars, Drive Capital. Open doors for founders anywhere they’d like.
- Support: build relationships with exceptional builders and onboard them as advisers + mentors for our peers. Support venture partners & associates’ careers and give warm intros for internships opportunities when possible.
đź“ŚCommon Responsibilities
- Bring in at least 2 companies / exceptional talent / deals from UChicago/Midwest founders each week (quality over quantity). This can be a team that is actively raising capital, or really smart peers who are tinkering with something interesting.
- Send at least 2 interesting articles on our Slack each week and respond to 3 others in the “Interesting Reads” section.
- Actively support founders at school, have coffee chats, and direct them to the right resources/people/program that we may have. Attend school events related to startups (LTF, Polsky, Midway) whenever schedule allows.
- Meet weekly with the entire team to discuss potential leads, progress on student startups, and interesting deals. If you can't attend, notify Colin or Diego at least one day in advance and submit a one-page writeup summarizing your findings for that week.
Partner-specific Responsibilities
- Every partner must choose to lead one startup/VC technical related event every quarter.
- Investor relations and active communication, including a monthly or biweekly newsletter for VCs launching soon.
